Alfred B. "Buss" McCormick, 95, of Meridian died at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at the UPMC Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born Sept. 29, 1911, in Rimersburg, he was the son of Albert Francis McCormick and Sylvia Mae Reimer.

He retired in 1985 from McCormick's Market, an independent grocery business he and his wife began in Brownsdale in 1945. Previously, he had worked at Franklin Glass and as an independent painting contractor.

Mr. McCormick was especially proud of being involved in the original zoning plans for Penn Township.

Before moving back to Pennsylvania in the 1920s, he had lived in Ventura, Calif., and often spoke of how much he enjoyed living there.

He was a member of the Christ Community United Methodist Church.

He was an honest, dependable, conscientious man who was often sought out for his advice. He loved his wife, family, friends and the challenge of independent business.

In retirement, he enjoyed home and garden maintenance and having friends in to visit.

He was devoted to his wife and to her interests, and recently, he was her compassionate caregiver when she needed help.

He was an excellent example to all who knew him and he will be truly missed.
