Purposeful event raises $22KCENTER TWP — More than 350 people Sunday attended the fifth annual Purses for Purpose Party at the Clearview Mall.The fundraiser is run by the United Way of Butler County, and proceeds benefit its educational opportunities for women.Kierston Hobaugh, executive director, said the event auctioned off more than 113 purses from designers like Emilio Pucci, Michael Kors and Kate Spade, raising $22,000.“I thought it went really well,” she said. “We have a very nice system and routine down now, so it went really smooth.”Hobaugh said the organization usually strives for $20,000 and has met that goal each year.“It’s been pretty consistent every year,” she said.

Officials get $75K for sewer linesEAST BRADY — Borough officials say they have received more than $75,000 in a state grant for a sewer line replacement project on parts of 6th Street and 1st Avenue.The project is being paid for partially through Community Development Block Grant money from Clarion County, which awarded the borough $75,492 for the sewer line replacement. The borough will kick in $45,652 of its own money to pay for the $121,145 cost of the project.Susan Buechele, borough secretary/treasurer, said there is no timetable for when work will begin.
