The following students achieved the dean's list at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., for the fall semester. Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.

Cain Brady of Cranberry Township was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C.

A group of local college students will take part in a global service-learning program organized through Slippery Rock University's Office of Community-Engaged Learning.

A group of eight will visit Puerto Rico, Jan. 3-17, to conduct service projects, connect with natives to understand the issues they face and inspire civic action.

The program will be conducted in partnership with Amizade, a nonprofit organization based in Pittsburgh that facilitates international service-learning experiences through an approach known as Fair Trade Learning.

SRU students traveling to Puerto Rico include:

Nikol Damato, a junior dual major in history and biology from Ellwood City.

Sam Hauser, a graduate student majoring in student affairs in higher education, and Malachiah Koehler, a junior dual major in psychology and criminology/criminal justice, both from Slippery Rock, and Ellie Schiappa, a senior geography major from Grove City.

Rachel Shirey of Portersville, who graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of fine arts degree in studio arts and a concentration in ceramics, represented the Class of 2018 during Edinboro University's undergraduate commencement ceremony Dec. 15.

A 2016 transfer to Edinboro University who obtained minors in art history and business administration, Shirey is the daughter of Paul Shirey and Dr. Mindyanne Berman.

Freshman Zachary Freund of Renfrew was named to the fall dean's list at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.

Freund is majoring in petroleum engineering and is a graduate of Butler High School.
