The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference named Elijah Depew of Grove City to the 2018 fall semester Academic Honor Roll among more than 50 fellow University of Dallas student-athletes.

The 2018 Fall Academic Honor Roll listing ranks the University of Dallas with the third-most student-athletes to receive the distinction out of 378 total recipients from across nine SCAC conference institutions. In order to qualify, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.25 for the academic semester and serve as a regular member of a conference-sponsored varsity athletic team.

The following students at Clarion University were recognized as Clarion scholar-athletes: Jeremy Frazier of Butler, Emily Hegedus of Chicora, Maverick Kelsea of Fenelton, Matthew Charlton Jr. of Freeport, Nickita Muto of Harmony, Austin Blauser of Karns City, and Jake Whitenight of Parker.

Student-athletes must have achieved one of the following: earned a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher; attained a 3.2 GPA or higher in two consecutive semesters, in the previous year's spring semester and the next year's fall semester; or as a freshman or first-year transfer student, achieved a 3.2 GPA in the fall semester.

JACKSON TWP. — Seneca Valley High School senior Ben Hess has been named a Regional Finalist for the 2019 class of the CocaCola Scholars Program, moving to the next round of the selection process to become a Coca-Cola Scholar and receive a $20,000 college scholarship.

Hess was among 1,896 semifinalists who were selected from more than 95,000 initial applicants and is now one of 251 students who have moved to the final selection phase of regional interviews conducted in mid-February.

Max Minard, a Shady Side Academy junior from Valencia, won three Writing Awards, a Silver Key, and Honorable Mentions in Critical Essay and in Poetry in the regional competition of the 2019 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

JACKSON TWP — Seneca Valley School District students from Ryan Gloyer Middle School and Evans City Middle School won various awards at the Feb. 2 regional MATHCOUNTS Competition at Grove City College.

The team from Ryan Glover, comprised of Peter Ko, Haihan Xu, Nathan Craig and Eric Combs, placed first overall.

The following students placed in the top 10 individually: Alexander Kim (second), Haihan Xu (third), Nathan Craig (fourth), Eric Combs (fifth), Peter Ko (sixth), Lihini Ranaweera (seventh) and Aayush Mengane (ninth).

Evans City sixth-grade student Gavin Helmsen also placed first.

The team of Alexander Kim, Haihan Xu, Nathan Craig and Gavin Helmsen qualified to compete in the state competition in Harrisburg in late March.
