Police: Saxonburg man’s strange behavior led to arrest on other charges
State police said a Saxonburg man knocked on a stranger’s door asking for a drink while in possession of drugs, a stolen vehicle and a stolen gun.
Police filed charges last week against against Jeffrey D. McMillen II, 30, including felony counts of attempted theft, drug sales, carrying a loaded weapon and illegal gun possession. Police said the charges stem from a disturbance at a Clinton Township home on Aug. 16.
After McMillen was arraigned later that day by District Judge Lewis Stoughton, he was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bond.
According to charging documents, police were called around 2 p.m. to the home, where a caller reported a strange encounter with a “suspicious man.”
Police said the homeowner reported that a man dressed all in black was at the front door “asking for a drink, and she became afraid as the man pulled on the front screen door attempting to open it.”
Police said the woman asked the man to leave and slammed her door shut. She then told police she had seen him walking through her property toward her neighbor’s property, and she was concerned he was still lurking around.
Police said upon investigation, they found McMillen sitting in the driver seat of a nearby Nissan Sentra. Police said as they approached, they saw the taillights activate, and when they announced their presence, McMillen put the vehicle into gear.
“The ignition was not fully turned on,” police said.
Police said they then found a 9mm pistol in a compartment on the driver’s side door. Police said they also called the vehicle’s owner, identified through registration, who told officers they didn’t know McMillen nor gave him permission to use the car.
Police said pistol belonged to the vehicle’s registered owner.
Police said as they arrested McMillen, they found 76 suboxone strips and $402 in cash.
McMillen is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Sue Haggerty.
