Midget Football

Kolby Kriese got Center Township on the board with a 76-yard run and the Rams went on to defeat East Butler, 20-6, in Butler Area Midget Football League play recently at Memorial Park.

Patrick Lokhaiser added a 12-yard scoring run as Center Township (4-1) increased its lead to 12-0 by halftime. Lokhaiser threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Mike Hepler and Doug DeFrancis made a conversion kick for a 20-0 lead.

East Butler (2-3) got on the board late with a 1-yard scoring run by Tyler Kaufman.

Meridian 16, Penn Street 14 — This game was scoreless through three quarters before Meridian's Jacob Olenick scored on a 3-yard run and Christian Kovach added the conversion kick.Penn Street (4-1) answered with Shayne Wilbert's 26-yard touchdown pass to Trae Wilson. Wilbert threw a two-point conversion pass to Sean Hembree from the 10-yard line to tie the game at eight.Keenan Barlow gave Penn Street a 14-8 lead in overtime on a 10-yard run. Meridian (3-2) answered with Jordan Cratty's 7-yard scoring pass to Steve Shoemaker, then won the game on Kovach's conversion kick.

East Side 18, South Butler 12 — Ian Bergbigler opened the scoring with a 51-yard touchdown run for South Butler (0-5), but East Side answered with Barry Murray's 37-yard touchdown run.The score was tied going into the fourth quarter when Murray's 46-yard touchdown run gave East Side (2-3) the lead with 48 seconds left. Bergbigler's 12-yard run knotted the game at 12 with one second left.Murray scored on a 10-yard run to win the game in overtime for East Side.

This week's schedule — Center Township faces East Side at 7 p.m. today. Meridian plays East Butler at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by South Butler opposing Penn Street at 7.
