Butler's junior varsity hockey team swept a home-and-home series with Fox Chapel recently, winning 5-0 at the Ice Connection and 7-1 at the Valley Sports Complex.

Jacob Hrip scored the shutout in goal while Jake Tomasovic scored three goals, and Cody Bachman and Mitchell Cunningham scored one each. Bachman added two assists.

In the 7-1 victory, Jake Whann scored two goals with Zach Emigh, Matt Bartley, Shaun Milkovich, Tomasovic, Bachman and Cunningham adding one each. Bachman had four assists and Tomasovic two.

Hrip and Mike Arturo combined to make 19 saves.

In other action:

The Armstrong Arrows Squirt Ateam won a pair of games recently, defeating the Pittsburgh Aviators 3-0 and Amateur Penguins 7-0.

Trevor Gilliland, Zach Kutch and Robbie Reichenbaugh scored goals against the Arrows. Christian Chybrzynski made 11 saves.

Gilliland and Kutch scored two goals each against the Penguins while Alex Culbertson, Sam Long and Ryan Rebmann scored one each. Chybrzynski had 14 saves.

Butler's junior high team won the Trinity Dual Meet Tournament last weekend, defeating Belle Vernon 75-24, Chartiers Houston 57-33, Trinity 79-19, Waynesburg 92-9 and Upper St. Clair 63-31.Zack Collins went 5-0 with four pins while Tim Fulks and Carlos Sanchez went 5-0 with three pins each. Will Bortmas was 5-0 with two pins and a technical fall.Doug DeFrancisis went 4-1 with four pins, Patrick Lokhaiser 4-1 with three pins. Jesse Spohn, Blake Caudill and Ryan Hannon were also 4-1.In other action:Knoch competed in the Mars Tournament and received a first-place finish from Blane Elliott at age 15-and-under 124 pounds.Eric Green (8-under, 75 pounds), Kameron Grassi (8-under, 50 pounds) and Gregory Sico (8-under, novice heavyweight) finished third.Dylan Holben (15-under, 87 pounds) and Tyler Hlebiezki (15-under, 117 pounds) finished fourth.

Butler Catholic defeated Immaculate Conception 38-6 as Tori Sawhney scored nine points and Morgan McLaughlin had eight.
