Butler's junior high wrestling team finished second out of 17 teams at the recent North Allegheny Tournament.
The Golden Tornado had two individual champions — Zack Collins at 115 pounds and Timmy Fulks at 210. Both had two pins.
Will Bortmas at 110 pounds and Matt Kenyon at 250 finished second, Jesse Spohn was third at 130, Blake Caudill and Zack Weaver fourth at 85 and 155, respectively.
Weaver and Spohn had three pins each with Kenyon getting two pins. One of Weaver's pins occurred in eight seconds.
The Pee Wee AA Pittsburgh Huskies hockey team improved to 15-3-1 with weekend victories over the North Pittsburgh Wildcats and North Hills Vipers.Nick Whann and Eric Leya scored goals in a 2-1 win over the Wildcats. Clay Bachman had 22 saves in goal.Bachman stopped all 22 shots he faced in a 4-0 win over the Vipers. Troy Double scored two goals, Matt Tomasovic and Christian Miller one each.The Huskies travel to Jamestown, N.Y., this weekend to compete in the Chautauqua County Youth Hockey Association Mid-Winter Classic.
Northern Steel's under-14 girls won all three of their games in a recent tournament, defeating GTFC3-2, Ohio Premiere 4-0 and Erie FC4-2 before dropping a 2-1 decision to the Cleveland Internationals in the semifinals.Kristen Check of Mars scored seven goals in the tourney for Northern Steel while Kailey Yocca of Mars added one. Jordyn White and Rebekah Krasinski of Mars excelled defensively and the goalkeeper was Maranda Tano of Saxonburg.In other action:The PA Crew Soccer Academy's under-10 boys traveled to Morgantown, W.Va., last weekend and won the WVUSC Winter Shoot-out, posting a 4-0 record and outscoring the opposition 16-3.Team members include Andrew Chwalik, Daniel Feathers, Caden Ferguson, Cory Ferguson, Spencer Hnath, Matthew Miles, Austin Uric and Michael Zirpoli. Sean Glackin coaches the squad.
Morgan McLaughlin and Olivia Wiest scored six points each as the Butler Catholic varsity Saints defeated Aquinas Academy, 20-12, recently.Natalie Barkus, Kailey Keep, Tori Sawhney and Emma Preston scored two points each.
