ADAMS TWP — A man is accused of secretly recording a marriage therapy session he had with his estranged wife at their counselor’s office.

Michael J. Andrejczyk’s wife told police she was unaware of the surreptitious recording made in April at the psychologist’s office in Adams Township.

She stumbled onto the audio evidence last month while using the couple’s computer at her home, according to court documents.

Police on Wednesday charged Andrejczyk, 43, of Grove City with illegally intercepting communications and criminal use of a communication facility, both felonies.

The defendant’s wife, Rebecca Andrejczyk, notified police after making the accidental discovery July 12. She said she logged onto a laptop computer that day and noticed that her husband had not logged out of his e-mail account.

She looked at his e-mails and saw one, which contained an audio recording attachment, that was sent to a mutual friend.

The audio file was a recording of the couple’s marriage counseling session in April, police said.

Rebecca Andrejczyk told investigators the recording was done without her knowledge.

“She does remember Michael placing his phone on the table (at the counselor’s office) but was unaware that it was recording the session,” according to a police affidavit.

Police Detective Mike Bailey listened to the 56-minute recording.

Bailey on Aug. 3 called the defendant to request an interview but he declined, telling the detective that he was meeting with his attorney.

Police later spoke to the psychologist, who also was unaware of the recording.

“(The counselor) said that he would never allow anyone to ever record a joint marriage counseling session,” Bailey said in his affidavit.

Andrejczyk’s arraignment and preliminary hearing are both set for Aug. 16 at District Judge Wayne Seibel’s office in Evans City.

His attorney, John Haller Jr., did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment.
