Jean Keasey Herman
Jean Keasey Herman, 88, of the Hospitality Care Center, formerly of Paul Street in Hermitage, died at 3:28 p.m. Friday in the care center.
Born Dec. 18, 1920, in Cabot, she was the daughter of Fred and Della Humes Keasey.
She graduated from West Winfield High School in Cabot and later from Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing in 1942.
A nurse, she retired in 1983 as the service director after 22 years at what was then Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital, Farrell. She also had worked at the former Sharon General Hospital.
Mrs. Herman was a member of Hickory United Methodist Church, Hermitage.
Some of her memberships included the AARP Sharon Chapter, where she had been a charter member; the American Cancer Society of Mercer County, where she served on the board of directors; and the UPMC Horizon Hospital Auxiliary.
A cancer survivor herself, she enjoyed volunteering for the local American Cancer Society and donated much of her time to the Reach to Recovery program to assist cancer patients. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross and was a certified disaster nurse.
She was an avid bowler and bowled with the Horizon Mixed League.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra J. Polk and her husband, Gary, of Millcreek, Wash.; three sons, Ronald A. Herman and his wife, Daryle, of Howland, Ohio, Richard A. Herman and his wife, Anne, and Randall L. Herman, all of Hermitage; a sister, Janet Antozyk and her husband, Peter, of Saxonburg; two brothers, John Keasey and his wife, Jane, of Butler; and Fred Keasey of Peoria, Ariz.; three granddaughters, Nicole Mathis, Cortney and Laura Herman; two grandsons, Ron and Rick Herman; and a stepgrandson, Chris Polk.
Her husband, Albert W. Herman, whom she married Jan. 6, 1944, preceded her in death Dec. 29, 1963. She also was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marilyn Sloane.
