Felony charges swapped for woman accused of driving dangerously
CHICORA — A Gibsonia woman waived her preliminary hearing Tuesday where prosecutors removed one felony charge and replaced it with another plus a new misdemeanor.
Released on her own recognizance, Destiny L. Gray, 29, appeared before District Judge Lewis Stoughton in relation to a case filed after she crashed her vehicle April 29.
Police accuse Gray of speeding before hitting a set of railroad tracks that led her minivan to crash along West Slippery Rock Street.
According to charging documents, Gray’s 8-year-old daughter was in the vehicle and hospitalized later; however, during her arraignment, Gray told Stoughton neither she nor her daughter was severely injured.
Assistant District Attorney David Beichner withdrew one felony count of aggravated assault with a vehicle related to another person involved in the crash. Beichner said that person appeared in court Tuesday and claimed to not be injured from the crash, resulting in the charge being dropped.
Instead, Beichner added two new charges: one felony count of child endangerment and one misdemeanor count of reckless endangerment.
Gray, represented by attorney Natalie L. Snyder, opted to waive her right to the hearing regardless.
She is scheduled to appear Sept. 6 for formal arraignment in Butler County Common Pleas Court.
