Anthony N. Sgro
Anthony N. Sgro, 87, of Butler died Tuesday afternoon at his home.
Born in Imperial, Dec. 23, 1918, he was the son of James and Stella Filadelfia Sgro.
He retired as a bartender at the Sons of Italy and had been a school bus driver for the Shriver Bus Co.
Mr. Sgro was a World War II veteran and was awarded the Purple Heath.
He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, the Sons of Italy, VFW Post 249 and the Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving are his wife, Victoria R. Franceschini Sgro, to whom he was married for 58 years; two sons, William L. Cummings of East Butler and James Sgro of Butler; two daughters, Mrs. Wallace (Kathleen) Twerdok of Butler and Mrs. Gary (Carol Jean) Shakely of Slippery Rock; and two brothers, Nicholas and Michael Sgro, both of Las Vegas. He also is survived by 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Sgro, who died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Center Avenue, with the Rev. James Dolan officiating. Burial will be at the St. Michael Cemetery.The Bereavement Group of St. Michael Parish will hold a scriptural wake service at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VNA Hospice, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.Information also is available at www.martinfh.net.
