Homer K. Schomburg

Homer K. Schomburg, 89, of Cranberry Township passed away Saturday at St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars.

Born July 20, 1923, in Cranberry Township, he was the beloved son of the late George and Christine (Kirstatter) Schomburg.

Homer answered his country’s call to duty, proudly earning a Purple Heart during World War II in the U.S. Army during the Battle of the Bulge.

He was a self-taught gardener whose green thumb was admired by those who had the pleasure of enjoying his holly and irises. Above all, his family meant the world to him, and his love and kindheartedness will be greatly missed by all.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his dear sister, Velma Hicks of Wexford; five nephews; six nieces; nine grandnephews; nine grandnieces; six great-grandnephews; and eight great-grandnieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Blane, Robert and Lawrence Schomburg; and his two sisters, Hazel Blackburn and Jean Beleski.

SCHOMBURG — Homer K. Schomburg passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012. Homer's family will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township.Funeral services will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Caroline Mendis officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park in Rochester.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor in support of the St. John Specialty Care Center, 500 Wittenberg Way, Mars, PA 16046, or to the Oak Grove Lutheran Church, 434 Harkins Mill Road, Zelienople, PA 16063.Online condolences and directions are available at www.glennkildoofuneralhome.com.
