Suspicious substances found during traffic stop

State police filed charges against a New Kensington man after they said they found multiple forms of drugs, including two bricks of heroin, during a traffic stop Thursday in Butler Township.

Imir M. Whitener, 22, was arraigned Friday morning by District Judge Lewis Stoughton on charges including one felony count drug sales and misdemeanor counts of drug and paraphernalia possession. He was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bond.

According to charging documents, police stopped a sedan with heavily tinted windows at 5:52 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of Family Dollar on Freeport Road. Police said as they talked with the driver and occupants, they could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle.

According to police, the driver informed officers she was carrying a pistol at which time, all four people in the vehicle were asked to exit for the officers’ safety. Police said Whitener exited from the passenger seat.

"I requested (the driver) for consent to search the vehicle, which she denied,“ police said.

Police said they had the vehicle towed and searched it after receiving a warrant from Stoughton.

“On the front-right passenger seat was a clear plastic baggie containing 10 bundles of suspected fentanyl or heroin,” police said.

Commonly in the sale of heroin or fentanyl, there are 10 stamp bags in a bundle and five bundles in a brick.

Police said they also found individual bags of suspected crack cocaine.

Police said Whitener has a lengthy criminal history that includes both violence and drugs.

Whitener is scheduled to appear July 7 for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell.
