Butler County inmate waives extradition to New Jersey

A disabled U.S. Army veteran who was arrested and jailed in Butler earlier this summer has waived extradition to The Garden State for a 2-year-old felony drug case, prosecutors said Thursday.

Bruce C. Curry, 59, of Butler waived an extradition hearing Wednesday before county Judge William Shaffer, said Assistant District Attorney Robert Zanella.

Curry was arrested June 30 by city police while officers were investigating a trespassing call at a store on North Main Street, and it wasn’t immediately clear that he was a wanted man. But a check with the National Crime Information Center database uncovered a full extradition warrant in Essex County, N.J.

Curry was arraigned by District Judge Sue Haggerty on the charge of being a fugitive from justice in connection with the warrant, and was incarcerated in Butler County Prison on $40,000 bail, with a detainer placed on him as well.

According to Essex County Sheriff’s Office, Curry was booked in Essex County Jail on Feb. 20, 2016, on drug charges and released six days later.

According to Butler County Prison, Curry was still being held in the facility as of Thursday afternoon. There was no information on when he might be extradited.
