Woman says she is victim of assault

CRANBERRY TWP — A Butler man allegedly struck his girlfriend in the face several times as she was driving a vehicle, causing bruising and lacerations.

Clecy Thompson, 28, of Butler, is charged with simple assault stemming from the incident, which was reported to police Sunday.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim went to the township police department to report a domestic violence related assault. According to the complaint, the victim said she, Thompson and a friend were leaving a bar on Route 19 when a physical altercation began in the vehicle between her and Thompson.

The victim said she was driving north on Route 19 when Thompson, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, began repeatedly striking her in the face with a closed fist, the complaint states.

The complaint states the victim received “significant” injuries, including bruising and lacerations to her face and minor injuries to her neck and collarbone. She required seven stitches to her face, the complaint states.

Thompson was arraigned Monday by District Judge David Kovach, who set bond at $20,000. An Aug. 17 preliminary hearing is scheduled.
