Input sought on new parks plan

Update to guide next 10 years

ADAMS TWP — The township parks department is looking for community input to guide its plan for the next 10 years of direction and development.

The Adams Township Parks and Recreation's master plan needs to be updated this year, and officials are reaching out to residents to shape what that plan will entail.

“For our park master plan, our last one was in 2008, and they have to be updated every 10 years,” said Haley Geyer, Parks and Recreations director. “So we're updating it this year.”

She said the department's main priority is to make a plan that best reflects the priorities and preferences of the township residents.

“The biggest goal is just to get the entire community's input,” Geyer said. “We have our thoughts, but it's mostly what the community wants. Their opinions matter to us.”

To accomplish this, the township has posted a survey on its website and on social media through which residents can communicate what they'd like to see in the next decade at the park.

The survey will be open until Tuesday.

The township is also working with a consulting firm to coordinate with community organizations and associations.

The plan is necessary for the park to pursue funding and apply for grants, so Geyer would like to see the plan finalized and approved before the end of the year.

“We are hoping to have it in place by 2019,” she said. “But that doesn't mean the construction will start then. That will be in phases.”

Once the survey is analyzed the township will hold a public meeting for residents to attend and discuss the plans. The date and time of that meeting has yet to be determined.
