ZELIENOPLE — More good news was discussed Monday evening for the borough public library.

Bids for the library’s interior lighting project came in lower than expected at $18,700.

The library earlier this year received more than $30,000 from the Keystone state grant.

Library board President Gregg Semel said the library will explore options for the difference. However, he said the library may focus on exterior improvements if the leftover money can be used.

“We didn’t expect that out of our original bid,” Semel said. “We’ll review what needs to be updated and see if the people for the Keystone grant will permit us to use some of the grant in that direction.”

Semel said this continues the library’s successful year.

“We’ve had a lot of support come from so many areas of the community,” he said. “When we started the year, we had our concerns and it looks like we’re heading in the right direction.”

The library received a $7,000 donation from local resident Randall Hart and partnered with Mark Marion for the Smiles for Life program that began in March. The latter effort raised more than $2,500 for the library from teeth whitening services.

A gold coin was also donated to the library in June.

Two upcoming events also will help raise funds for the library.

Sept. 22 is the annual “Book the Night,” which will have a silent auction, and Oct. 8 will be the second “Zelie on Tap,” which also will raise money for the community park.
