[naviga:h3]No bus service on Thanksgiving[/naviga:h3]

The Butler Transit Authority will not operate on Thursday in observance of the Thanksgiving.

Regular bus service will resume Friday.

The Transit Authority’s Santa Trolley bus will be featured in the Annual Spirit of Christmas Parade on Saturday.

Also featured at the New Castle Street Plaza will be a Stuff the Santa Bus event from noon until 3 p.m. The Transit Authority will be collecting unwrapped, new toys, children’s clothes sizes 5 to 14 and nonperishable food goods.

Donations will also be accepted at the Clearview Mall near the main entrance from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

All donations will benefit the Salvation Army and the local community.

[naviga:h3]Slippery Rock earns certification[/naviga:h3]

SLIPPERY ROCK — The borough received certification through the Sustainable Pennsylvania Community Certification program this month.

The borough is recognized at the “Silver” level of certification for meeting the program’s performance criteria, which tracks 131 policies and practices that define a sustainable community, and acknowledges its progress in addressing such areas as community design and land use, energy efficiency, health and wellness and recycling and waste reduction.

“Slippery Rock Borough is proud to be recognized as a Silver Certified Community by the Sustainable Pennsylvania Community Certification program,” said Regina Greenwald, borough council president.
