CRANBERRY TWP — Marcos Baldeo of Cranberry Township was walking to two hearings in district court Friday morning when he was picked up by township police on a warrant from common pleas court.

Baldeo, 25, now has three cases at the county level following Friday’s hearings. He appeared before District Judge David Kovach in two of those cases, which stem from separate incidents on June 14 and 23.

On June 14 Baldeo allegedly crashed his vehicle on Autumn Hill Drive, causing one person to become trapped in the vehicle. One passenger was treated for minor injuries while two others were treated for more severe injuries, according to a police complaint.

Officers determined Baldeo was driving east on Autumn Hill Drive at high speed when he lost control on a curve. The vehicle turned sideways, left the road and entered the front yards of two residences before striking a mailbox, a communication box and a tree, according to police.

The complaint states Baldeo had a blood-alcohol level of 0.139 percent. A blood test also showed marijuana was in his system.

Baldeo is charged with felony aggravated assault by a vehicle while DUI, misdemeanor DUI by combination of alcohol and drugs, and traffic citations for driving at unsafe speeds and careless driving causing serious bodily injury. He was released from jail July 6 after posting $15,000 bail, and on Friday waived his preliminary hearing.

The second case occurred June 23, while police were attempting to find Baldeo to address the accident charges. Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in which Baldeo was riding.

According to court documents, officers found him in possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and he was allegedly uncooperative with police during the traffic stop.

On Monday Baldeo was charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest, use and possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana in connection with that traffic stop. He was arraigned on those charges Friday, with Kovach setting $25,000 unsecured bond and castigating the defendant for his conduct toward police.

“I don’t take resisting arrest lightly,” Kovach told Baldeo. “It’s not a good idea to resist arrest in any manner. ... You just comply and you handle it in the proper way.”

Following the hearing Baldeo was taken to the Cranberry Police Department, where he was to be picked up by the county sheriff’s deputies. A bench warrant was issued Wednesday after he failed to appear for a hearing in a case that occurred May 28.

In that case Baldeo allegedly led Zelienople police on a pursuit that reached speeds of about 96 mph. After stopping, Baldeo allegedly resisted when police attempted to remove him from the vehicle, documents state, and only exited the car after police threatened to Taser him and township police arrived to assist.

A subsequent pat-down search turned up a spring-assisted pocket knife from one of his shorts’ pockets, according to court documents. When police asked him why he was traveling so fast, Baldeo allegedly replied “he missed his turn but did not feel he was speeding at all.”

Baldeo was charged with possession of a prohibited offensive weapon, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, illegal racing, driving at an unsafe speed and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.

On Friday, Baldeo told Kovach he did not know why a warrant would have been out for his arrest, and that he was unaware of additional cases outside of the two filed in Cranberry.
