Mars volleyball scores upset win

High school roundup

Mars extended its boys volleyball season Tuesday night with a stunning 3-2 upset win over Seton LaSalle.

The Rebels won the WPIAL championship last season and were considered a prime contender this year. The Planets will move on to play Montour in the second round of the playoffs Thursday night.

Site and time will be determined.

Girls Lacrosse

Seneca Valley (7-6) saw its season ended by a 16-10 first-round WPIAL playoff loss at Bethel Park.

The Black Hawks (12-3), who won their section this season, posted a 12-8 win over the Raiders in a regular season game last week.

Softball

Rossi McMillen homered and Jada Polczynski contributed a triple and single, but Karns City dropped a 5-4 decision at DuBois Central Catholic.

DCC scored runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good. Mara Patton struck out four while pitching a complete game in taking the loss for the Gremlins.
