A Butler woman faces a hearing in October on charges she illegally obtained more than $6,370 in public assistance benefits.

The Pennsylvania Inspector General's office on Friday charged 39-year-old Callie Grizzard with felony welfare fraud.

Between Oct. 1, 2015, and July 31, 2016, she is accused of fraudulently collecting 5,565.28 in Medical Assistance Program benefits and $808 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, formerly known as food stamps,

Authorities said Grizzard was not entitled to the assistance because she failed to report income to the state Department of Human Services.

At the time, according to court documents, she was employed by PrideStaff Inc. in Wexford.

She is charged with a third-degree felony count of fraudulently receiving public assistance.

If convicted, the maximum penalty Grizzard faces is seven years in prison and a fine of $15,000, plus a mandatory disqualification period from the benefits program she defrauded.

Her preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 2 at the office of District Judge William Fullerton in Butler.
