FORWARD TWP — Residents are invited to visit the first new township building since 1968.

Roadmaster Charles Behm said residents can tour the new building at an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at 207 Ash Stop Road.

Behm said the old building was small and housed both the administrative offices and the road crew.

He said the noise and dirt from the road crew operations were causing problems with the office's printers and computers.

But worst of all, Behm said, was the tiny meeting room that could not accommodate many members of the public at monthly supervisors meetings.

The new one-story, $450,000 pole building will have offices for the township secretary, an administrative assistant, Behm and two road crew workers. Road crew equipment and materials will remain at the old building next door.

The 4,000 square-foot building will have a 30- by 50-foot meeting room, Behm said.

Construction of the building began in April. Township personnel moved into the new building last month, Behm said.

The contractor was Swede Contracting of Elizabeth, Pa.

The old township building was built in 1968 and use began in 1969.
