Grant funds new STEAM pavilion at high school

BUTLER TWP — The Butler School Board on Monday night approved the construction of a $20,000 STEAM pavilion outside of the high school.

Tad Campagna, a physics teacher at the high school, applied and received funding for the project from the Allegheny Intermediate Unit.

STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and math.

Biology concepts likely will be further emphasized in the outdoor space. Growing fruit trees, composting, using solar panels, and making and testing biodiesel fuels are all projects that could be done there, Campagna said in an interview last month.

The pavilion should be ready to use by the fall.

The high school currently has a STEAM classroom, which was funded through another $20,000 grant a few years ago.
