Third shoplifting at Target lands man in jail
BUTLER TWP — The third time did not prove to be the charm for a suspected shoplifter.
Township police said Nicholas D. Woyton, 38, of Ford City, Armstrong County, made successful getaways with merchandise from the Target store at the Butler Commons shopping plaza on Oct. 23 and again Nov. 13.
But when he returned to the store one more time, on Nov. 15, his subsequent getaway ended in Buffalo Township, where police stopped him.
Woyton is being held in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail, while facing charges in three separate shoplifting cases.
Police suspect Woyton stole a Fit Bit activity tracker, valued at $149.95, from the store on each occasion Oct. 23 and Nov. 13, according to court documents.
Security footage captured Woyton committing the crimes, police said. He is seen wearing the same ball cap in each incident.
At about 10:30 a.m. Nov. 15, a store security employee reported seeing the same shoplifter walk out the door with a set of Bose headphones, valued at $199.99, documents said. He drove away in a Ford sport utility vehicle.
The call went out on police radio and a short time later state police notified Buffalo Township police that they had just passed the suspect's vehicle.
Buffalo police stopped the vehicle and found Woyton with the stolen headphones, according to authorities.
He is charged with three counts each of receiving stolen property and retail theft.
