Transit authority matches grants for capital purchases

The Butler Transit Authority agreed Tuesday to provide matching funds for two capital grants that will be used for equipment and technology purchases.

One grant for $113,000 includes $68,800 in federal money, $42,774 in state money and a $1,426 match from the authority. The money will be used to buy a weed trimmer, law mower, floor sweeper, a vehicle and a new leaf blower.

The second grant for $12,560 includes $12,155 in state funds and a $405 match from the authority. The money will be spent on a new phone system, laptop computer and a Wi-Fi receptor for the authority's buses.

The authority will be able to order the equipment in 30 to 45 days, said John Paul, executive director.

In other business, the authority approved a five-year, $13,073 service agreement with Avail Technologies Inc. for cellular phone service needed to transfer ridership information from buses to Avail's cloud storage.

The state classified the service as an operating expense and declined to pay for the purchase, Paul said.

Last month, the authority approved spending $377,461 in state CARES Act money to buy procurement, payroll, human resources and customer service software from Avail.
