Father, 2 sons uninjured infire
CENTER TWP — A father and his two young sons escaped a mobile home fire without injury Friday morning.
The fire started in the closet of the 310 Estate Lane home while Randy Guthrie, the owner of the home, was asleep.
Guthrie had two young sons, ages 2 and 3, in the home with him at the time, along with a dog and a cat.
“I woke up to smoke coming into the bedroom,” Guthrie said, adding he had three other boys who were not in the home at the time.
Guthrie said he grabbed his sons and they escaped the home, but his two pets had to be rescued by firefighters.
Both pets were taken to a local veterinarian for treatment for smoke inhalation.
Greg Brewster, the Fire Chief for the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department, said firefighters were able to control the flames within about 15 minutes of their arrival.
He estimated the damages to the home and its contents to be around $20,000. The family had no insurance on the home or its contents.
Brewster said the fire was contained to the closet area of the home, but the rest of the interior sustained heat and smoke damage.
“It’s not livable,” he said.
The American Red Cross was called to assist Guthrie and his sons.
The cause of the blaze is pending an investigation from the state police fire marshal.
Firefighters from Prospect, West Sunbury, Slippery Rock and Mercer Road volunteer fire departments assisted on the scene.
