Everett A. Filges, 91, formerly of Oakland Township, died at 2:20 a.m. today at the Chicora Medical Center.

Born in Butler County, May 25, 1916, he was the son of George and Ida Yost Filges.

He retired as a carpenter from the local carpenters' union. He also was a farmer and a heavy equipment operator and was well known for the ponds he built in the county.

Mr. Filges was a lifetime member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a former member of the East Butler Fireman's Club.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, flying small airplanes and especially his dog, Baby.

Surviving are two sons, Dennis Filges and his fiancée, Marge Watterson, of Oakland Township and David Filges of New Kent, Va.; two daughters, Joyce Reeves and her husband, Donald, of Oakland Township and Lois Bell and her friend, Joe McCrea, of Fenelton; 12 grandchildren, Kevin Reeves, Karen Fencil, Kelli Rensel, Mark Reeves, Gretchen St. Clair, Erin and Eric Dumbaugh and Brian, Christine, Ashley and Adam Filges and Alex Snyder; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A sister, Mrs. Gertrude Barnhart of Cabot, and many nieces and nephews also survive.

His wife, Christena Strobel Filges, died Dec. 6, 2005. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda, and a son, Paul Everett.

<B>FILGES</B> — Friends of Everett A. Filges, who died Wednesday, July 25, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Alden Towberman, his church pastor, officiating.
