An Ohio company will repair the town clock that overlooks the corner of Main and West New Castle streets in Zelienople. Borough council also voted unanimously to approve a new website design.

ZELIENOPLE — Council met Monday and announced the name of the company that will restore the town clock.

“We chose the Verdin clock company in Cincinnati, Ohio,” said Don Pepe, borough manager. “The results are outstanding.”

Verdin Bells & Clocks has six generations of experience, accumulated since its founding in 1842.

“My impression is we have a tremendous amount of artisans working on this clock,” said Pepe.

In other news, council got an update on the initiative to replace the borough's website. The project is nearing completion, and council approved the new design.

The site features a slide show background with images of Zelienople at various times of the year.

It will also feature a calendar that lists upcoming events in the borough and links to calendars of organizations around the area. The calendar has a function that allows users to add the events onto their personal calendars. Users also can receive notifications when important changes are posted on the site.

Board members and those attending the meeting said they were impressed by what they've seen so far.

The board voted unanimously to approve the new website design, which could go live as early as September.

The project has been in the works for almost a year and will cost the borough $4,800, half of which has already been paid. The second half will be paid once the site goes live.

The new website will work on computers as well as mobile devices like tablets and smart phones.

“It's a beautiful site,” council President Alan Bayer said.
