CRANBERRY TWP — The Cranberry CUP is looking for its next inspirational family to help through its annual August fundraising events.

Each year the Cranberry CUP selects a family or individual that has a great financial need due to a medical hardship, said Ashley Heinrichs, Cranberry CUP board member. The nominees must live somewhere within the Seneca Valley School District.

The group helps their inspirational families however they can, whether it is offsetting medical costs or providing other types of support.

Last year they assisted the Majcan family of Cranberry build an addition onto their home to accommodate their son, who was severely injured in a car accident.

“We want anybody that needs assistance or needs help to reach out,” Heinrichs said. “We really want to find the people that are truly in need.”

Families can nominate themselves or can be nominated by others. Those selected go through a vetting process, where the selection committee reviews financial records to ensure there is a need, Heinrichs said.

Heinrichs said they also like to tell the family or individual’s story to raise awareness, so applicants should be ready to share their story with the public.

Applicants are accepted all year, but Heinrichs said they hope to have their 2017 inspirational family selected by the end of April. Nomination forms can be found at cranberrycup.org.

The Cranberry CUP hosts a weekend full of fundraising events in August for its inspirational family including a kickoff party, 5K walk/run, softball tournament and golf outing.
