Board OKs bid for bridge

JACKSON TWP — Construction on the Fanker Road Bridge could start within 30 days.

The township supervisors Thursday night awarded the bid to Gregori Construction to work on the ailing culvert bridge.

The bid is $453,450, a price that township manager Chris Rearick said was higher than the township wanted to see, but lower than what similar projects charge.

One concern brought up was traffic during the construction, which could take two to three months.

Rearick said project signs will be placed in advance of the construction site. Signs closing off the road to everyone except local traffic will be used to discourage other traffic from traveling through.

However, Rearick also said there have been talks with engineers to possibly just close the road because heavy machinery will be in the area.

Also at the meeting, the supervisors approved Lindy Paving to expand its facility.

The expansion includes building a concrete facility and creating new parking at the business.

Lindy general manager Ryan Harcar said the expansion will not create more jobs. He also said the cost of the project has not been finalized.

The company said it would address dust control and noise during the construction, which is expected to start this year.

This expansion will take place at the same time that a new FedEx center, which is adjacent to Lindy, will be built.
