Moniteau board raises lunch prices for 2015-16 school year

Hikes of 10 cents, nickel approved

CHERRY TWP — The Moniteau School Board Monday night raised the prices of school lunches for the 2015-16 school year.

Lunch prices at Dassa McKinney Elementary School will increase by 10 cents to $1.90 and lunches at Moniteau High School will increase by 5 cents per paid lunch to $2.10.

Director of food service Jennifer Zellefrow proposed the increase on May 18 to the board. She said these adjustments are calculated according to a formula in federal regulations for school lunch programs.

Board member Michael Panza praised Zellefrow’s management of the district’s meals. He said the increases are to comply with the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act.

• The board also approved seeking an alternative education/virtual education teacher for the high school.

“This will help us start an intensive student support program for at-risk students in grades 7 to 12,” said high school principal Lance Fox. “This gives a better option for monitoring these students so they can stay within the school system.”
