Sunday ticket complaints nonissue
Butler City Council members and Butler Police Chief Tim Fennell made it clear Thursday they consider complaints about ticketing that occurred Sunday in the area of East Pearl and Second streets a nonissue.
A letter appearing in the Nov. 17 edition of the Butler Eagle, as well as phone calls in response to the letter, chastised the city police department for ticketing churchgoers parked along East Pearl Street in an area marked "No Parking."
Fennell said police were initially called to the area for a report of a blocked driveway.
"Once we arrived there about the blocked driveway, other residents in the area took the opportunity to register complaints," Fennell said.
Additionally, as was claimed in a letter to the editor appearing in today's Butler Eagle and confirmed by Fennell, several vehicles were blocking traffic signs or fire hydrants.
Most of those ticketed attended Hill United Presbyterian Church at 501 Second St., according to Danny McKnight, who wrote the letter to the editor.
"We have made every arrangement we could to provide (the church with) parking," Fennell said.
No city council members said they had been contacted regarding the tickets.
