Man reparoled on drug, theft cases
A Butler man with drug and theft charges was reparoled in Butler County Court on Tuesday.
Maximillian W. Halterman, 21, was released from Butler County Prison by Judge William Shaffer following a motion for reparole.
Halterman had been held in the county facility for 6½ months following a violation of his parole in two cases, including felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor theft.
He pleaded guilty in January 2016 and initially was sentenced to 10 to 20 months in the facility followed by 60 months probation after sentencing on March 31, 2016. After the violation, which included new arrests and charges, he was resentenced to serve his unexpired balance of parole.
Now, after serving 15 months of his initial 20 month sentence, Halterman has been released again.
Halterman testified Tuesday, saying that while in the prison he has had no misconduct reports, has attended programs, has a job waiting and has applied to attend classes at the Butler County Community College.
“I took the time I've been in here and really thought, maybe I need to so something more with my life,” he said.
Halterman was charged with felony possession with intent, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, summary disorderly conduct and driving on a suspended license after an incident on July 15, 2015.
Butler City police responded to a fight call in the 300 block of Franklin Street, when one the suspected combatants flagged down a responding officer in a cruiser, claiming Halterman had a gun.
A short time later, police stopped Halterman's car on Rattigan Street. Officers found no gun but a search turned up a plastic bag filled with suspected powder cocaine in one of Halterman's pants pockets, police said.
The contents weighed 11.7 grams, or 0.41 ounces, according to court documents.
Halterman was also found to be wanted on warrants in Clearfield Township in January on charges of felony theft, conspiracy to commit theft, and receiving stolen property.
He currently has no active cases in the court system.
