[naviga:h3]Antique gun show returns to Harmony[/naviga:h3]

HARMONY — The borough’s annual antique gun show will return in August, featuring an array of historic firearms and other weapons and related items.

The show will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 11 at Stewart Hall at the Harmony Museum, 218 Mercer St.

More than 25 specialists will present antique guns, swords and related items. Many items are for sale, though some specialists bring items of historical significance only to display and educate the public.

Visitors can also bring items for experts to examine and appraise.

“Most firearms on display are examples of hunting, target or defense long arms used by the region’s settlers,” said Rick Rosenberger, a Harmony Museum board member who organized the event.

“The 18th and 19th century gunsmiths in Western Pennsylvania developed a distinctive rifle style that adapted architecture and decorative features from light, accurate guns first made in eastern Pennsylvania and Virginia, commonly called Pennsylvania rifles,” he said.

[naviga:h3]Democrat will speak in Lyndora[/naviga:h3]

The Democratic candidate for Pennsylvania’s 15th Congressional District will speak at a town hall-style event Aug. 6 in Lyndora.

Susan Boser, 61, of Indiana, Pa., will be at the event, which runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at General Butler Vagabonds, 138 Whitestown Road. The event is sponsored by the Butler County Democratic Committee.

Boser’s campaign says she intends to discuss her plans to advocate for small businesses, renewable energy, infrastructure development, expanding addiction treatment and education funding.

Boser, who is a professor and chairs the Sociology Department of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, defeated Wade Jodun in the state’s primary election in May. She will face Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson of Howard Township, Centre County, in November’s general election. Thompson has held the seat since 2009.
