CT, Meridian nab varsity wins on gridiron
Center Township and Meridian picked up impressive varsity victories Saturday in Butler Area Midget Football League action at Memorial Park.
Center Township 44, Butler City 6 — Caleb Baxter scored on a 6-yard run for CT in the first quarter. Michael DiMartino scored on a 63-yard burst and added the conversion kick in the second period.
Butler City’s Dante Smith answered with a 65-yard TD dash, but DiMartino responded with a 54-yard pass reception for a score. His conversion kick gave the Rams a 22-6 lead at halftime.
Adam Hoehn scored on a 20-yard sprint, Cody Johnson on a 10-yard scamper and Gavin Terwilliger on a 5-yard rush for Center Township. DiMartino added two more conversion kicks.
Meridian 35, East Butler 12 — Mike Vought scored on a 4-yard run for Meridian. Dallas Hays answered for East Butler with a 57-yard touchdown jaunt.
Meridian reclaimed the lead in the second quarter as Alec Bayer threw a 30-yard TD strike to Anthony Rufo and Cole Thompson scored on a 1-yard run. Bayer added a pair of conversion kicks.
Hays scored on a 63-yard run for East Butler, but Meridian took over the scoring from there. Bayer scored on a 12-yard run and Cameron Kovach found the end zone on a 4-yard run, Vought adding a conversion run.
Center Township 18, Butler City 6 (JV) — Ethan Morton, Kyler Callihan and Michael Crawford scored for CT, Tre Stephens for Butler.
Meridian 32, East Butler 0 — Andrew Martin scored three touchdowns, Christian Tanner two for Meridian. Bayden Davenport added a conversion run.
