Emily Hegedus scored 11 points to lead the Butler Catholic varsity girls basketball team to a 33-14 win over Northside Catholic recently.
Sophia Wiest added nine points, Emile Peratt five, Erin LeMay, Maggie Moses, Anna Chiprean and Amara Dorcy two each.
WrestlingThe Butler junior high squad placed third out of 10 teams at the third annual Norwin Duals on Saturday.Butler defeated Fox Chapel 87-3, NA Black 57-42, Mapletown 80-12 and McGuffey 56-37 and lost to Kiski Area 75-17.Caleb Baxter went 5-0 with three pins, while Hugh O’Neil also went 5-0 with one pin to highlight the Golden Tornado effort.Sammy Dietrich, Scotty Dietrich, Zack Hunka and Justin Johnson all went 4-1 with Scotty Dietrich and Hunka recording three pins each. Isaiah Cristy, Donovan Malovich, Mike Vought, Hank Finan, Eli Hartung, Riley Burdine and Seth McCrea all went 3-2 on the day.• Butler and Knoch’s youth programs participated in the Shaler Area Novice Tournament on Sunday.• Christian Scheller won the 8-under 60-pound weight class and Kyle Lauster won the 10-under 65-pound division. Zane Lynch was second in the 8-under 60-pound division and Dalton Reed was second in the 10-under 100-pound division.• Baden Ferguson, Tristan Lynch and Dominic Lynch also wrestled, but did not make the finals.Butler’s Zach Slomers finished first in the 10-under 90-95-pound division while Vance Jackson was first at 55 pounds, Levi Donnel first at 8-under 50 pounds. Logan Donnel was third at 12-under 80-85 pounds.
HockeyThe U-16 Class AA Pittsburgh Huskies improved their PAHL record to 9-1 with a 3-2 victory over the Altoona Trackers recently at the Valley Sports Complex in New Kensington.Dustin Davis, Nick Makozy and Christian Miller scored for the Huskies. Goalie Clay Bachman stopped 26 of 28 shots on net.
