Tyler Frederick scored 10 points, including the game-winner as time expired as the Butler boys basketball eighth-grade Gold team edged Sewickley Academy 24-23 Thursday.
Frederick also scored 15 points in a 32-30 victory over Clairton recently.
Elsewhere:
Michael Harris had 14 points — including four 3-pointers — and Connor Ollio added 12 points to pace the Butler seventh-grade boys White squad to a 49-21 victory over Knoch.
Butler (1-1), which had nine different players reach the scoring column, will play at the Coach 'S' Tournament this weekend.
Tyler Hrip and Cameron Barto scored goals as the Butler freshmen (6-1) defeated Central Catholic, 23-1, recently.Trevor Gilliland and Ronan Miller assisted on the goals and goaltender Jake Curry had 10 saves.
The Butler YMCA team improved to 3-0 on the year by winning eight of 10 age groups against the Greensburg YMCA.Claiming first-place finishes in various events were Isabella Pelligrino, Katie Ravasio, Laura Goettler, Amanda Noellert, Abigail Jones, Jillian McElhaney, Camryn Forbes, Kaelyn Emanuel, Taylor Campbell, Emily Merhaut, Katelyn Jones, Hannah Shoemaker, Drew Griffith, Caden Traggiai, Gideon Goettler, Sam Schirra, David Bocci, Matt Karenbauer, John Wilson, Ian Schirra, Alexander Wigton, Joey Deemer, Brandon Bridges, Ryan Deemer, Noah Donovan and Nathan Walls.
