JEFFERSON TWP — A Knoch High School student is accused of taking photos of another student with his cell phone as they were in adjacent bathroom stalls at the school last week.

State police Tuesday charged Caleb D. Haines, 18, of Buffalo Township with misdemeanor invasion of privacy and disorderly conduct, which is a summary offense.

The victim, a minor, told authorities that he was seated on the bathroom toilet in a stall Dec. 8 when he noticed what he thought was someone attempting to take pictures of him from the next stall, police said.

The boy saw the camera phone reach under two times. After the second time, according to court documents, he told the suspect to “stop it.”

Trooper Richard Houseman described the camera as being positioned from underneath the victim's stall.

While the boy could not see who was taking the photos, he provided a key clue to authorities. The suspect was wearing “fuzzy onesie pants/shoes,” documents said.

Houseman likened the get-up to a costume in the mode of the Chewbacca character in “Star Wars.”

Based on the attire, police said, the school principal was able to identify Haines, who admitted taking the photos, documents said. He showed the photos to the principal and Houseman.

“The pictures showed the victim's legs,” documents said, “and were verified by what he was wearing.”

None of the photos showed the victim's genitalia.

“Other photos of the same nature of unidentified males,” according to a police affidavit, “were also observed on Haines' phone.”

Houseman said police have not identified those other males.

Jenny Webb, communications director or the South Butler County School District, declined to comment on the incident.

A woman who answered a call to Haines' phone number, said that he, too, had no comment.

A preliminary hearing for Haines is set for Jan. 24 at the office of District Judge Sue Haggerty in Saxonburg.
