Donald Knox
Donald L. “Don” Knox, 91, of Bruin, went to be with the Lord Friday afternoon, June 19, 2026, in the comfort of his home while surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Donald was born Sept. 4, 1934, in Bruin. He was the son of the late Elbert J. and Sara Katherine Kitch Knox. Donald was a 1951 graduate of Bruin High School and a longtime member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora.
He was a 32-degree mason and a member and Past Master of Argyle Masonic Lodge 540 F&AM in Chicora and the Consistory Valley of New Castle. Don was employed at Penreco in Karns City for more than 46 years and retired as a well-trusted instrument technician in 1999.
In his younger years, he played softball, enjoyed fishing and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed watching movies, evenings out with his wife at the Butler Little Theatre and meals with friends and family at local area restaurants. The couple, along with the Cramers, enjoyed trips to Branson, Mo., and Disney World in Florida and vacations with the Mennors to Geneva on the Lake.
Donald is survived by his wife of more than 70 years, Olive Louise “Peenee” Double Knox, whom he married at the First English Lutheran Church of Chicora Oct. 29, 1955.
Also surviving are their children, Karen L. Campbell and her husband, Ronald, Nancy L. Saylor and her husband, Jack, all of Bruin, Donna L. Bailey and her husband, David, of Butler, Margaret L. “Peggy” Emery and her husband, Wallace “Wally,” and Donald “Donnie” A. Knox, and his wife, Diane, all of Bruin.
Don was affectionately “grandpa” to his grandchildren, Ronald Campbell Jr., Shanon Dunlap, Robert and Brian Saylor, Aaron Macurak, Brandi Smith, Brooke Powers, Tara Fowler, Steven and Raymond Emery, Megan McGee, Brandon, Tyler, Trevor, Sara and Marli Knox and Andrew and Eric Orton; and 21 great-grandchildren. Donald was looking forward to the birth of his 22nd great-grandchild. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Van and Gail Double, of East Brady, Helen and Charles Cramer, of Chicora, and Thomas Barney, of Bruin; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings and their spouses, Autho and Thomas Black, Kenneth and Maxine Knox, Austin and Betty Knox, and his twin sister, Dorothy Barney; as well as a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
KNOX — Friends of Donald L. “Don” Knox, who died Friday, June 19, 2026, will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 22, at HILE FUNERAL HOME of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City.
A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Larry Thompson, pastor of the Martinsburg Church in Bruin, officiating.
Interment will be in Greenlawn Burial Estates in Butler.
Members of the Argyle Masonic Lodge 540 F&AM of Chicora will conduct a memorial service for their departed brother at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
