Tanner Geibel

Geibel

Tanner Geibel, 23, of Butler, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, following a tragic automobile accident.

Tanner was born in Kittanning, on June 14, 2003. His life, filled with so much promise, was taken far too soon, leaving behind a family and countless friends who loved him deeply and whose lives will forever be changed by his loss. His legacy will forever be carried in the hearts of all who knew him.

Tanner was the beloved son of Tyson and Karrie Geibel and the proud big brother of Caidyn and Adyson. He was the cherished grandson of Rick and Linda Mazzanti, Ron and Connie Geibel and Richard and Arlene Paterra. He was also deeply loved by his many aunts and uncles and by his cousins, who adored him. Tanner also leaves behind his girlfriend, Zoey Scherer, whom he loved with all his heart.

Tanner was someone who never shied away from a day’s work. With a quiet confidence and tireless work ethic, Tanner always aspired to be more and above all, to be able to provide for the people he loved. He found joy in knowing the people he cared about were taken care of and he wanted nothing more than to give them the best that he could.

His smile, broken tooth and all, was the kind that made you smile back before you even realized you were doing it. He had a natural way of accepting people exactly as they were, offering kindness and acceptance without judgment. Tanner was never seen without some type of bling on. From thick puka shell necklaces in his younger years to silver chains and Rolex watches now. A gifted athlete, Tanner had a particular passion for baseball, a love he shared with his dad and one that gave them countless memories together.

Tanner will be remembered for his fierce independence as well. Whether it was driving his Power Wheels car around the neighborhood alone at the age of 2 or moving to Miami at the age of 21, he never let an obstacle stand in his way. When he set his mind on something, there was no stopping him. He enjoyed cooking from a very young age, as well as spending time with friends, going to camp, golfing and spending quality time with his girlfriend.

Tanner’s family finds comfort in knowing that he received a daily devotion each morning. On the morning he passed, the Scripture was Psalm 55:22: “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you.” This now feels like a message meant not only for him, but for everyone left behind, a reminder that when our burdens become too heavy to carry, God carries us until we are strong enough to walk again.

Tanner was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Richard and Ruth Ferguson; and his cousin, Brian Payment Jr.

GEIBEL — Family and friends of Tanner Geibel, who died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, at SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler. A prayer service will immediately follow in the funeral home.
