State police report 843 crashes, 5 fatalities over Memorial Day weekend
Pennsylvania State Police investigated 843 crashes resulting in 129 injuries and five fatalities over the Memorial Day weekend from May 22 to 25.
Intoxicated driving was a factor in 59 of the crashes, two of which were fatal.
Troopers arrested 399 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and issued 26,871 other citations, including 6,519 for speeding, 1,074 for not wearing a seat belt and 110 for not securing children in safety seats.
During last year’s Memorial Day weekend, troopers investigated 750 crashes that resulted in 134 injuries and nine fatalities. There were 56 DUI-related crashes, including three fatalities. Troopers made 519 DUI arrests and issued 7,126 speeding tickets, 167 child safety seat tickets and 1,029 seat belt violation tickets.
