6 taken to hospitals after 2-vehicle crash in Center Township
Six individuals, including three children, were taken to area hospitals as a result of a two-vehicle crash not far from the Unionville Volunteer Fire Company hall in Center Township on Wednesday, May 13.
Some of the injuries in the crash, which was first reported shortly after noon at the corner of Mahood Road and Sunset Drive, were deemed “serious,” said Nathan Wulff, assistant fire chief with Unionville Volunteer Fire Company.
He said the two vehicles involved in the crash were a minivan and a pickup truck.
All six people involved in the crash required transportation to hospitals in Butler and Pittsburgh.
“There were five occupants in the minivan — two adults and three juveniles — and then one occupant in the pickup truck,” Wulff said.
The three adults were taken to trauma centers.
According to Wulff, two of the adults from the minivan were trapped in the passenger compartment and needed to be “cut” from the vehicle with tools.
“When I arrived, the minivan was up on its side in an embankment,” Wulff said. “The three juveniles had been removed from the minivan by some passersby and the two adult occupants were trapped in the vehicle. We had to remove the windshield and the roof of the vehicle so we could gain access.”
Once freed, the two were flown from the scene by STAT MedEvac helicopters.
In addition to Unionville and STAT MedEvac, ambulances from Butler, Slippery Rock, East Butler and AHN Prehospital Care responded to the scene, as well as state police.
