Parker man sentenced for Butler burglary

A Parker man was sentenced Friday in Butler County Common Pleas Court to serve time in prison followed by probation for charges stemming from a burglary in Butler.

Jonathan M. Tacey, 28, was sentenced to serve 7 to 23 1/2 months in the Butler County Prison followed by 24 months probation, a concurrent term of 18 months of probation and pay a $100 fine after pleading guilty to a felony burglary charge and a misdemeanor resisting arrest charge.

In a separate case, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia charge and was sentenced to concurrently serve 12 months of probation.

Tacey was charged with two counts of burglary and one count each of misdemeanor theft, receiving stolen property and resisting arrest following an Oct. 9 incident. Butler police said he was found hiding behind a couch in the basement of an East Walnut Street home after the owner reported a break-in.

Police said they received a call Oct. 9 from the homeowner, who wasn’t home, but saw Savannah Kaye Rogers, 19, of Butler, who is also facing charges, attempting to enter the home. The owner then received an alert on her phone signaling there was motion inside the home.

Police surrounded the residence and waited for the homeowner to arrive. While waiting, police said Rogers exited the home, but retreated inside when she saw police.

Rogers eventually exited the home and said a man was still inside. Police then searched the home and found Tacey hiding behind a couch in the basement. Police said Tacey pulled away from officers while being arrested.

Police found multiple bags inside the home near Tacey, which the homeowner said didn’t belong to her. Inside one of the bags was identification for a man living on East Brady Street.

Police said the man called police shortly after to report his backpack and other items had been taken from the home. The man discovered his bathroom window was open, which he said is always shut and not opened by anyone in the home.

The man was missing his backpack, cellphone and an Xbox controller. Police said another backpack, a Nintendo Switch, a video game dock and two Nintendo Switch games also were taken from the house.

Judge Maura Palumbi sentenced Tacey remotely from the county jail, where he is being held.

Rogers has been charged with two felony burglary charges and one count each of misdemeanor of theft and receiving stolen property. Her case remains active in court.

State police filed Tacey’s possession of paraphernalia charge following an Aug. 4 incident in Jefferson Township.
