McCandless

Elsie K. McCandless, 99, of Butler, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2026, while under the care of Concordia at the Orchard.

Born Jan. 25, 1927, in Portersville, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Jennie (Haley) Kelley.

Elsie was a graduate of Portersville High School and went on to graduate from Butler Business College. She worked a variety of bookkeeping and office positions throughout her career. Elsie was a longtime member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Butler. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandsons.

Elsie is survived by her son, Brian R. (Ann L.) McCandless; two grandsons, Scott and Andrew McCandless; and her sister, Dorothy Snyder Guiney.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Ralph W. McCandless, whom she married Aug. 22, 1950, and who passed away in May of 2001; and her sister, Thelma McKinnis.

MCCANDLESS — Family and friends of Elsie K. McCandless, who died Sunday, April 12, 2026, will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon Saturday, April 18, at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.

She will be laid to rest in North Side Cemetery.
