Connoquenessing Township officials give update on Sewage Facilities Plan

CONNOQUENESSING TWP — Officials provided a few updates to residents regarding the township’s Act 537 Sewage Facilities Plan at a meeting Wednesday evening, Nov. 6.

Supervisor Angela Fleeger announced that on Oct. 28 she and vice chairman Ricky Kradel had a meeting with solicitor Andrew Menchyk Jr.; HRG Engineering; Mark Gordon, Butler County Planning Commission chairman; and the Delta Group to discuss funding options for the plan.

“Those discussions included possibilities with PENNVEST, Lithia, ARC, USDA Loan programs and Local Share Account grants,” Fleeger said. “HRG has also contacted Pennsylvania American Water to set up a date and a time to review possible options and cost estimates,” she said.

Fleeger also noted that survey work of properties is ongoing, and so far, the team performing those has completed 610.

She said the remaining surveys would be finished by the end of the week and the findings will be sent to HRG Engineering. Once the final numbers are collected, she said council could give a more comprehensive update on what the survey work found.

The township first received a letter from the Department of Environmental Protection in June 2023 that declared it was in violation of the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act for not having a functioning public sewage plan mapped out.

Under Act 537 of the Pennsylvania state code, “Each municipality shall submit to the department an officially adopted plan for sewage services for areas within its jurisdiction within such reasonable period as the department may prescribe.”
