Cranberry Township business loses $37K to check fraud

A Cranberry Township building company lost more than $37,000 after eight fraudulent checks bearing its name were cashed by several individuals, according to charges filed last week.

Investigators said the fraudulent transactions took place in 2022 and were connected to the bank account of PF Cook Brick Company.

Police charged Rowan P. Jacquet, 35, Mahkaylah D. Jones, 25, Kiwain K. Stanton, 28, Jada J. Jackson, 24, Sanaiya S. Pettaway, 27, all of North Carolina, and Sakorea T. Black, 25, of South Carolina, with one count of felony access device fraud.

Additionally, Monique E. Truesdale, 21, of Charlotte, N.C., was charged with two counts of misdemeanor access device fraud.

According to documents filed May 16, the defendants made thousand-dollar purchases following the alleged fraudulent activity.

Each defendant has a history of alleged check fraud unrelated to the Cranberry Township case and examples were detailed in the police affidavits.

Police said Black fraudulently deposited a $14,109 check, Stanton fraudulently deposited a $9,800 check, Jacquet fraudulently deposited a $4,127 check, Pettaway fraudulently deposited a $3,319 check, Jackson fraudulently deposited a $3,243 check and Jones fraudulently deposited a $1,942 check.

According to documents, Truesdale deposited two fraudulent checks totaling $685.

Police said PF Cook Brick Company lost $37,228 to the alleged check frauds.

Truesdale’s preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 28 before District Judge Kevin Flaherty. Hearings have not yet been scheduled for the other defendants.
