Cashdollar sports complex tabled again by Forward planning commission

Forward Township’s planning commission during its first meeting of the year on Tuesday, Jan. 23, voted for a second time to table plans for the proposed Cashdollar multisport complex.

According to township manager Tom Hartwig, Cashdollar’s representatives still needed to fully address the comments made by township engineer Tom Thompson from the October meeting, when the sports complex last went before the planning commission.

“In our engineer’s opinion, some items were addressed but the majority of the items were not addressed,” Hartwig said.

The plans were tabled at the October meeting due to concerns about traffic and other logistical issues which were raised by Thompson.

The Cashdollar family first brought their proposal of a multi-sport complex before the township late last year. The most recent plans call for an outdoor soccer field along with three enclosed buildings, which would feature an indoor soccer field, four pickleball courts and two pole vaulting tracks.

The complex would be built on land the family once used to grow and sell Christmas trees on Watters Station Road.

The Cashdollars’ own engineer, from the firm Hampton Engineering, could not attend the Tuesday meeting due to a family emergency, so it was up to architect Jim McMullen to go through the items in Thompson’s letter one-by-one.

“The Cashdollars were not happy with their engineer, so I expect their preliminary plan to be in much better shape in February,” Hartwig said.

According to Hartwig, a “small crowd of Cashdollar supporters” were present at the meeting but did not speak.
