Janet Hollack
Janet M. Hollack, of Green Valley, Ariz., formerly of Lyndora, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024, at the age of 78.
Jan graduated from Slippery Rock University in 1967, with a bachelor's degree in physical education. She continued her education, earning a master's degree in the same field of study at Michigan State University in 1969.
While attending SRU, Jan was a member of the women's field hockey team, a sport she had never played until then. She went on to become one of SRU's best field hockey players, and later played for the U.S. Reserve Field Hockey Squad. Jan was ultimately inducted into the SRU Hall of Fame in 1985.
Jan had a long, successful career as a physical education professor teaching at Mount Vernon College in Washington, D.C. In keeping with furthering education, Jan founded and funded the Anne Hollack Memorial Field Hockey Endowed Scholarship at SRU, in remembrance of her mother.
After retirement, Jan moved to the Tuscon/Green Valley, Ariz., area where she continued to be physically active and enjoy her life. She was a docent at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, where she was involved in the raptor program. Jan was an active supporter of the Desert Museum, funding the acquisition of a falcon for their raptor program, which was named “Annie” in honor of her mother, Anne.
Jan is survived by her sister, Barbara (Len) Silhanek of Lyndora; and nephew, Eric (Polly) Merkner of Wellington, Colo. She will be greatly missed.
There will be a private family memorial service at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tuscon, Ariz.
