Roland Weckerly
Roland “Bud” Weckerly, 90, of Butler, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024, at Allegheny General Hospital.
Born May 1, 1933, in Butler, he was the son of the late Albert Weckerly and Helen Kepple Weckerly.
Bud was a graduate of Penn Township High School, where he won the state championship for basketball his senior year in high school. He was a member of Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, Butler, where he was a deacon, a member of the choir, volunteered for many activities and arranged a yearly church corn roast which started in 1943 and is still ongoing.
He loved singing and recorded himself during the COVID-19 pandemic, so it could be played for people who were quarantined and in isolation. Many nurses called him their “singing strength,” and he was featured in an article in the Butler Eagle. He was also a member of the William H. Miller Lodge 769, New Castle Consistory and the Syria Shrine.
Bud was a lifelong dairy farmer who loved his John Deere tractors.
He enjoyed hunting, target shooting and dancing. Bud was accepting and had love for everyone. He always said “it is what it is.”
